YWTF Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (YWTF Philly).
The YWTF Philly Chapter was founded in 2005 and is in the process of electing new leadership for the upcoming year. In its first two years, YWTF Philly has recruited members and responded to member interest through the planning and execution of events that speak to practical, timely women's issues. Past events include a Financial Planning Seminar, an HPV Prevention Seminar, and a "Women in Leadership" Training Day. YWTF Philly has been active in the Philadelphia community, establishing contacts with the Philadelphia Chapter of Women's Way, the country's oldest and largest women's funding federation, and the Committee of Seventy, a non-partisan political watchdog organization. Recently, YWTF Philly initiated a book club in response to member interest, selecting works whose themes are relevant to younger women. Past selections include Eat, Pray, Love and I Am Charlotte Simmons.

In mid-July, chapter director Andrea Carson Tanner attended a retreat in Washington, DC for all YWTF leaders. As part of the weekend, we spent a day on Capitol Hill, and Andrea met with Pennsylvania lawmakers to introduce them to YWTF and to lobby about upcoming legislation regarding access to contraception. She met with staff members from the offices of Senator Arlen Specter, Senator Rick Santorum and Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz. The day concluded with a Roundtable Discussion with the House of Representatives’ Democratic Women’s Working Group.
